Minutes of March 6, 2023 C.V.W.C. meeting
- Meeting began with guests Anna Sweeny and Brett Morris.
- Anna Sweeny – HCC Scholarship winner
- Will be working at Blank Park Zoo this fall.
- Brett Morris – Cedar Falls Parks Supervisor and Arborist
- North Prairie cattails were removed last year.
- Rake worked okay but will need some improvements.
- Sprayed last fall and will spray again in July.
- North Cedar Natural Resource Area – oak savannah
- Ash tree removals from public property completed.
- 3500 trees removed from public rights of way.
- Replacing ash trees with Iowa native species on public property.
- Replanting 200+ trees per year.
- North Prairie cattails were removed last year.

- Tim called the meeting to order at 7:25 pm with 27 members present.
- Roll call of officers was taken with all members present.
- Minutes of the February 6 meeting were read and approved.
- Financial report it was given by Jeff and approved.
- Tournaments:
- Harper’s Ferry tournament will be April 1
- Boat numbers will be drawn after meeting.
- Tournament Committee will have a rules meeting after general meeting.
- DNR report:
- Mercury report for upper Cedar River passed out.
- Iowa Walleye Challenge 2023 will collect more fisheries data.
- Moved by Steve Grimm, second by Angelo to purchase 200-250 hot dogs for the April 15 Trout Stocking event. Angelo and Rick Harris volunteered to cook hot dogs.
- Milo will get parking variance letter from City of Cedar Falls.
- Moved by Steve Grimm, second by Angelo Schmidt to purchase 200-250 hot dogs for the April 15 Trout Stocking event. Motion passed. Angelo and Rick Harris volunteered to cook hot dogs.
- Sport Show will be March 10-12. Sign-up sheet was passed around for this Official Volunteer event.
- Walleye stocking – Road cleanup will be October 14.
- North Star Hatchery
- Will stock Grundy Lake, George Wyth Lake and Big Woods Lake.
- Motion by Greg Azbill to purchase more shirts and hats at $14.50 each. Seconded and passed.
- Cedar Falls High School Fishing Team will be given Gulp, line and tackle.
- Fish poles will be reserved for Family Fun Day, not Trout Stocking event.
- Scheels again donated $300 of gift cards for monthly drawings.
- Outdoor Journey for Girls applicants needed.
- Wild Bunch Lake of the Woods trip will be June 10-17. 12 participants so far.
- Discount certificates passed out:
- $25 x 4 from Prop Shop
- $50 x 3 from Custom Covers
- Drawing was held for Scheels gift cards: Jared Honermann and Greg Azbill.
- Meeting adjourned at 7:50.
