Minutes of August 5, 2024 C.V.W.C. meeting

• Tim called the meeting to order at 7:01 with 23 members present.
• Roll call of Board members – all present.
• July 1 minutes read and approved.
• Treasurer report by Jeff read and approved.
• Tournament report:
  • Lake Okoboji:
    • September 21.
    • No discussion
    • Sign up online.
• DNR Report:
  • Grow Cedar Valley has requested suggestions for improving the Cedar River in Waterloo and Cedar Falls.
• President’s Report:
  • Outdoor Journey for Girls:
    • 17 girls participated.
    • Fishing instruction on Alice Wyth Lake.
      • 2 groups.
      • All caught fish.
      • Suggestions was made to give a fish pole to each participant next year.
    • CVWC paid for 4 girls at $150 each.
    • 4 Thank You notes have been received.
  • Family Fun Day:
    • Aug. 11.
    • Volunteers still needed.
    • Fish donations needed.
    • Berkley rod and reel will be raffled.
    • CrawDaddy bringing 10 kayaks – help will be needed.
  • Military Family Day:
    • August 18 – 10:00-1:00.
    • 8-10 volunteers are needed.
  • Alice Wyth Preschool:
    • August 2.
    • 3-5 year-olds and parents participated.
• Volunteer events/tournaments:
  • Clear Lake had 26 boats – 18 were not from the area. Increased memberships
  • 6 family events have been held so far this year.
• Red Wing fun event for members:
  • October 18-19.
  • Opportunity for non-tournament members to fish with tournament anglers.
  • Boat owner volunteers needed.
  • Co-anglers needed.
  • Sign-up list passed around.
  • Mass email with information.
• Thank you’s:
  • From Casey Dietz for his dad (Greg’s nephew).
  • From Grundy Center Izaak Walton League for Grundy Center kids’ donation (62 kids).
  • Email from Cedar Falls Fishing Club for line donation.
• Walleye stocking and cleanup:
  • October 26.
  • $5000 has been allocated.
  • Prices have increased:
    • 5”-6” fish are $3.25 each.
    • 6”-8” fish are $3.80 each.
  • Board recommends raising allocation to $6000.
    • Motion to increase to $6000 seconded and passed.
  • Stocking Harold Getty Lake or Dike Lake, Big Woods Lake and George Wyth Lake.
• Trustee opening:
  • Motion by Steve Grimm to appoint Jared Honermann.
  • Second by Jeff Soash.
  • Motion passed.
• Jeff suggested more communication with the Board needed from membership:
  • Raise issues at meetings.
  • Come to a Board meeting.
  • Call a Board member.
• Still no update on need for help with fish structures at Hickory Hills.
• Fishing info and techniques:
  • Scott Schipper – Blade baits.
    • <50 degrees
    • 10# braid w/ swivel & snap
    • 12# leader
    • 6’-6” MXF rod
